Kenya Visa Requirements

Most visitors now need an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) instead of a traditional visa. Apply online before travel. East African Community citizens (Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan) enter visa-free. Some Commonwealth citizens may have different requirements.

The eTA replaced the traditional visa system in 2024. Apply at etakenya.go.ke, pay $30, and receive approval within 1-3 days. Valid for 90 days, single entry. Multiple-entry options available for frequent visitors.

The eTA costs $30 for single entry, valid for 90 days. The East Africa Tourist Visa costs $100 and allows travel to Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda on one visa. Children under 16 are exempt from eTA fees.

The EATV is a joint visa ($100) valid for Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda. It allows multiple entries between these three countries for 90 days. Apply through any of the three countries' visa systems. Great for multi-country safaris.

Kenya has an excellent approval rate of approximately 97% for the eTA system. Applications with complete documentation are rarely rejected.

Required: valid passport (6+ months validity), recent passport photo, travel itinerary, accommodation details, return/onward ticket, and yellow fever vaccination certificate if coming from an endemic country.

Yellow fever vaccination is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. It's also recommended for travelers visiting certain areas of Kenya. Carry your vaccination certificate.

The standard eTA allows 90 days. Extensions are possible at immigration offices for up to 6 months total stay. For longer stays, you'll need to apply for a permit or leave and re-enter.
