Application Process

Bangladeshi citizens must apply for an Oman visa through the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Dhaka or via a sponsored route through a registered Omani tour agency.1 The online eVisa system is not available for Bangladeshi nationals.2

Following the partial lifting of visa restrictions in June 2024, Bangladeshi citizens can apply under these categories:15

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

Prepare all required documents including passport (valid for at least 6 months), photographs, bank statements, income proof, travel itinerary, hotel bookings, and travel insurance.3 All documents must be complete and properly attested.

For high-income tourist visas, contact the Oman Embassy in Dhaka directly.1 For sponsored visas, work with a registered Omani tour agency that can provide sponsorship and handle the application process.

Step 4: Submit Your Application

Submit your completed application with all supporting documents to the Embassy or through your sponsoring tour agency. Pay the visa fee of OMR 20 plus any applicable service charges.1

Step 5: Wait for Processing

Processing takes 1-4 weeks.1 The Embassy may request additional documents or clarification during this period. Ensure you have provided valid contact information.

Step 6: Collect Your Visa

If approved, collect your visa from the Embassy or receive it through your tour agency. Verify all details on the visa are correct before travel.

Fees

Fees are subject to change. Embassy fees are non-refundable regardless of application outcome.2 Additional charges may apply for document attestation or courier services.

What You Need to Prove

Oman immigration authorities assess applications based on several key factors.3 As a Bangladeshi applicant, you must demonstrate:

High Income Status: For the high-income tourist category, you must prove monthly income of at least $2,000 USD and maintain a bank balance of $10,000 USD or equivalent.4 This is verified through bank statements and salary certificates.

Financial Capacity: Bank statements must show sufficient funds to cover your entire trip with consistent balance over 6 months. Large unexplained deposits raise suspicion.3

Strong Ties to Bangladesh: Employment letters, property documents, and family obligations demonstrate your intention to return. Young, single applicants or first-time travelers face additional scrutiny.5

Genuine Tourism Intent: Your travel itinerary should show realistic tourism plans with specific destinations, confirmed hotel bookings, and return flights. Vague plans or inconsistent documents raise concerns.

Clean Immigration History: Any history of visa overstays or rejections, especially in GCC countries, significantly impacts your application. The 2023 visa ban was partly due to such issues among Bangladeshi nationals.5

Processing Times

Processing times vary based on application route and completeness.1

Apply at least 4 weeks before your intended travel date to allow buffer time. Processing times exclude weekends and holidays. The Embassy may request additional documents, which extends processing.

Important: 2024 Visa Policy Changes

Oman imposed a complete visa ban on Bangladeshi nationals from October 31, 2023, citing labor market concerns and issues with visa overstays.5 In June 2024, Oman partially lifted the ban for specific categories:

Categories Now Permitted:

• High-income tourists (income $2,000+/month, balance $10,000+)
• Professionals: Physicians, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants
• Investors and business visitors
• Family and visit visas for Bangladeshis in GCC countries

Still Restricted:

• Standard work visas remain largely restricted
• Converting tourist visas to work visas is prohibited

This policy context means applications are scrutinized more carefully. Ensure your documentation thoroughly demonstrates your eligibility under the permitted categories.

After Your Visa is Approved

Once approved, you will receive your visa from the Embassy or tour agency. Before traveling:

• Keep a printed copy of your visa and all supporting documents
• Ensure your travel insurance is active for your travel dates

At Oman Immigration:

Present your passport with visa, and be prepared to show:

• Return flight ticket

• Proof of sufficient funds
• Travel insurance documents

Immigration officers may ask about your travel purpose and itinerary. Answer clearly and consistently with your visa application.

During Your Stay:

• Do not overstay your visa duration under any circumstances
• Do not attempt to work or convert your tourist visa to a work visa
• Carry identification and visa documents at all times
• Respect local customs and laws

If Your Visa is Refused

If your visa application is rejected:1

Contact the Embassy to understand the specific grounds for refusal. Common reasons include insufficient financial proof, weak ties to Bangladesh, or incomplete documentation.

2. Address the Issues

Wait at least 2-3 months before reapplying. Use this time to strengthen your application by improving your financial documentation, obtaining stronger employment proof, or building travel history.

3. Consider Alternative Routes
